3 Men + Black: Acoustic
.....Pauline Black has never been given the true credit she deserves. Here The Selecter tunes are great, but the true revelation is the way her resonant voice floats in and out of the non Selecter tracks, giving each a new found warmth and beauty.........Ian Templeton for Record Collector January 2005
...Black's voice sounds sublime in the stripped down environment, this is overall a successful project. Keep an eye out for live dates. Brett Callwood for Acoustic Magazine Feb/March 2005
SELECTER ACOUSTIC: Requiem For A Black soul
......the lyrics are as sharp as you would expect, mostly dealing with the subject of racism, though modern technology (Heavy Science) and poverty (Government Man) are also sensitively but forcefully examined. The original idea behind 2-Tone bands like The Selecter was to deliver weighty topics sugar-coated with fun backing, and for a while it worked very well, but this approach, with Black's gorgeous vocals and Welsh's sparse, but lush production job, is terrifically effective. Shane Baldwin for Record Collector August 2004

I saw Selecter Acoustic play in Devon recently, their acoustic set was a history not only of the ska movement in Britain, but also the history of the struggle against racism and the part played by 2-Tone bands. They performed many of the songs on the album 'Requiem For A Black Soul', released last year. A wonderful album for all anti-racists to savour and draw inspiration from.
